Why would it be easier? AS has more flight options (they fly from all 3 Bay Area airports) and adding a connecting flight to LAX REDUCES your chances of an award (since there has to be availability on two flights, not just one).

OK, so that's what I wanted to learn. Looks like booking 1-3 awards and the remainder on another miles program might be the way to go. Even if I'm booking 2 seats at one go with Avios, how often does award space show up on AS......is it random, is released at specific intervals or is there a science behind it?
