I agree with what you are saying, but what we think of the food is subjective. The most recent pasta I had in BA F was of lesser quality than a recent meal in CX J, so I could equally suggest that the catering is better. The reality is that it is different, CX J is catering to a Chinese market in their catering offerings, it is a slick offering, and CX J probably spend a similar amount on catering per passenger as BA F.
BYI the CX F and J menus are quite similar. After flying on the 3pm HKG-LHR flight in F I was waiting to get off the plane and picked up a J menu that was lying on someone's seat. Apart from J not offering caviar, and perhaps about three less choices for main and less snacks, the menus were quite similar in terms of the dishes offered between F and J. I am sure however that Krug is a F-only commodity.
