I agree with what you are saying as I certainly will exercise caution on the initial drive from RDU. Not only the concern about fatigue (although I am flying DL BE SVO-JFK) but also driving a standard rental car rather than my BMW.
However, I have four days of driving in NC. As it turns out, the only speeding ticket that I got from a state trooper in at least 25 years was in NC. The irony is that he was not using radar or lidar but VASCAR.
Safety is always my first concern but unlike western Europe, the USA interstates do not force slow traffic in the left lane to yield to faster traffic which I view as making things worst for all concerned.
