Hitting card spending limit [not], need new AmEx option
Since 2003, I have had a Blue Cash card. Apparently - unknown to me as I failed to ever check - I've been hitting a spending limit on the card and it reverts from 5 percent cash back to 1 percent. I can understand that, although I can no where online find that limit (rant for a different forum, ha).
Anyway, I am seeking any guidance as card points / cashback options always through me for a loop. We spend usually $35-$40,000 annually on a card - it should also be stated we never carry a balance, as we pay in full each month.
We usually spend about 35 percent of the total annual charges on merchants (ie grocery store, gas, drugstore, online) but about 25-28 percent on travel (airfare, cruises, rental cars, hotels, etc).
Since I'm hitting a cap on my card, I'm looking for something that can better utilize the travel spending. My kicker is we have no loyalty to a specific airline so an airline-specific (SkyMile for instance) card doesn't help us much.
Any input from you genius' in AmEx land if we should - given the spending - switch out of Blue Cash to another product? Annual fees aren't an issue for us, although we aren't currently paying one.
Thanks in advance and apologies for the fairly newbie question.
