Cost. UPS/FedEx will use anything that can carry cargo that can be acquired for little. When airlines started dumping 727s and DC10/MD11's, they bought them cheap.
Cargo doesn't get spooked by accidents and other such things. While the DC10 had some issues, it was a perfectly good aircraft.
Yep. You simply don't see UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc buying brand new planes - they simply pick up whatever they can get for cheap.
