The only downside to booking the AC flights now is that you may have to pay change fees if you change within 21 days of departure. You may or may not need to call the change in. The website is theoretically capable of handling such a change, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will. On the scale of relative complexity, the change you are contemplating is close to a zero. I wouldn't worry about that.
