I was very surprised (and pleased) today when I went down to my local Lebanese takeaway to get a break from Christmas food. I swiped my MC card and the terminal responded with a "Use Chip" message. Okay, I dip my card into the rather old shabby looking terminal and the whole transaction proceeds on EMV technology. Wow. The guy on the other side of the counter did look a little surprised, but hey it worked.
The terminal was from First Data. The terminal looked (old and shabby) like this one:
