I wouldn't worry too much with AMEX and other large travel insurance products. They subscribe directly to databases which make this all commercially available and they can check it in seconds for any carrier.

A strong suggestion that if you do have travel insurance or work for the kind of employer which mistrusts its employees, that you create and retain a PDF of the flight status showing "CANCELLED" or in the case of a delay, the scheduled/actual arrival time.
