Might I suggest you look at a phone that's easy to unlock the bootloader? Rooting is one thing, having an unlocked bootloader is nirvana.

I don't think the Moto X and S4 are easy to unlock. No idea about the Note 3. I do know the S3 comes with the bootloader unlocked.
