But isn't this what the OP is trying to do? The OP already has a 241 booking and is trying to change the return from DEN-LHR to JFK-LHR. Therefore the OP is running afoul of the restriction on rerouting a 241 to a different zone.

The OP can book a 241 open jaw redemption as he proposes but he can cannot change a 241 redemption already booked to a different redemption zone without cancellation and rebooking.
Maybe as the OP is rerouting from a higher zone to a lesser zone this can be done but I don't remember it being discussed here.
To the OP, Denver is in zone 6, 4001 - 5500 miles. PHX, DFW, IAH, SEA, SFO, etc, are in the same zone.
My apologies…totally mis read OP question…….blame it on Christmas day refreshments!!! Having now correctly read the post I realise OP is referring to already booked AMEX flight so no re route allowed unless same zone.
