I was born and spent 24 years of my life in Tbilisi, up to 1994. I pretty much know what I am talking about - in 1992-2004 period it was a failed state, so the term 'territory' was used for that context: those were times when the current first vice prime minister's (who was lead soccer player in Milan that time) brother was kidnapped for ransom and subsequently killed, even when ransom was paid. I was telling all my relatives there that they should not tell anybody that I live in States because in case something would happen to them I would not be able to pay anything and they should be on their own.

Regarding the topic: In 2004 I was driving solo from Sydney to Melbourne via A1. This was my first overseas (I mean non-US) auto trip which also introduced me to the concept of closed reception for hotels/motels at 8PM. Subsequently four nights I slept in my car during that trip. Honestly, I did not mind much.
