All miles prior to 1995 counted in your total. In 1995 and thereafter, it was only MQMs that counted.

I joined the Delta Frequent Flyer program in 1984 and it took me 10 years to make 1MM. The second MM, although I flew a lot more per year, particularly 2003-2010, took me about 16 years; I don't think I'll live long enough to see 3MM.
