Personally I think all bets are off Xmas week (and New Year week too for that matter.) Service workers want some time off as well! So if it's not something that is contractually agreed (like a flight) then call ahead before making plans if it is that important to you. I would say this is common sense, but there seems to be disagreement on what common sense is.
