Always check in at least one hour before scheduled departure.
Anything else leaves you at risk of losing your seat.
Same with luggage - if not checked in at scheduled time, they can refuse it,
or, at smaller stations, have check-in counter closed.

If no luggage, you can OLCI, then get to gate in time for later departure.
