we just came back from 17 days in nov in kyoto, nara, kanazawa and tokyo. just skip nov. kanazawa and osaka had rooms, but even tokyo got pretty full. really did not seem that crowded, but no rooms. for 2014, we decided to do oct. we are now thinking about september.
I can't skip going in November as this stopover is part of a vacation to Myanmar on award tickets. I am finding some places to stay so it is definitely on. I can always change to a preferable hotel later on if something becomes available.
I am so glad I asked here on FT about booking in advance for Kyoto. if I had waited until this summer I might be SOL.
