Queuing outside shops and Filipinos? on Sunday

Two things.

Walking from the Star Ferry to say Hankow Road just before 9am. A jewellers called Prince is closed yet had at least 50 people queuing both sides of the door. Door opens, mad rush to get in.
Saw this a couple of times and for a few other shops.
I know some stores might let 2-3 people in at a time, but why this queuing?

Secondly, on Sunday morning I went to Hong Kong station and then waling around Statue Square / Chater Road etc, there were hundreds of girls sitting around in and on cardboard boxes. Some seemed to be packing boxes labeled as Philippines airfreight as well as those red/white checked laundry bag things.
Do they come over to stock up or sell cheap goods?
They were sitting in traffic free streets in the middle of the road, on walkways, down by the ferries etc.
