I'm okay with a business hotel. Last time visiting Japan in 2005, in Tokyo, we stayed in one because of it's locations. I also liked having the big public bath on the top floor.

My husband thought I was nuts looking for a hotel room so far in advance but I'm glad I asked here. I'll book something that is acceptable and then check back closer to the time we arrive, 3-5 months prior to Nov. 13. I've sent a lot of emails and will see what comes back.

I'm also looking into an apartment rental on VRBO. I found one for $120 a night, in Gion area. I emailed the owner and am awaiting an answer.

I tried to reserve the Station Hotel Kyoto but it says "no plans available". I don't know if this means the hotel is full or if I'm trying to make a reservation too far in advance. There don't seem to be any dates available and there is no email address for the hotel.

If I were to increase the budget to $125 a night what would some good choices be in the station area?
