is there something going on in Kyoto at that time? I'm finding many hotels are already all booked up and have no availability. Or do the booking sites like Agoda not go out that far? Even some of the hotel web sites do not have availability calendars for Nov. 2014.
What is the customary time to book hotels in Japan? 3 months out, 6 months out? I want to stay close to the train station and try to find a hotel in the $100 price range that includes breakfast. A ryokan would be okay too. I speak some Japanese so a place that caters to mainly Japanese would work for us.
I found the same thing. I am going to Kyoto in late October next year and found very little space available. And even the hotel I did book only had a couple of standard rooms left - nothing in the deluxe or higher category (not that I cared). The whole place seemed completely booked up. In my case, I am there over Oct. 22 which is the day of the Kurama and Jidai Festivals. Couple that with the busy fall color season and I had a hard time finding something. So if I were you, I would grab something refundable now and see if something you like better/is cheaper opens up at the 3 month or 6 month window.
