In one redemption i did, the 'system' calculated the turnaround point based on MPM and it turned out to be different than my 'destination' (which became a 'stopover'). I didn't really care since i got the routing i wanted (and allowed me to later change the dates to take a stop at my destination)

I'm not aware of such limitation (no mention on rule 28.3).

Is that a legal routing, or would BKK be considered the destination, with the open jaw on the return leg (which may not be allowed)? Would it make any difference if we did the first part through Europe, such as YXE-YYZ-IST-BKK?
On your proposed routing, I would tend to see BKK as the turnaround point with an O/J during the return leg.
