How do you define destination and stopover in same region?

If we make a couple stops in the same region, what determines which is the stopover and which is the destination? Perhaps is doesn't matter in some cases, but if one of the stops is an open jaw, my understanding is that can only be at the destination (is that correct?). We're looking at this routing:

YXE-YVR
YVR-TPE
TPE-BKK stop
BKK-SGN
open jaw
HAN-TPE
TPE-YVR
YVR-YXE

Is that a legal routing, or would BKK be considered the destination, with the open jaw on the return leg (which may not be allowed)? Would it make any difference if we did the first part through Europe, such as YXE-YYZ-IST-BKK?
