If your MAN flight is already booked and non refundable, and your final destination is central London, it may be quicker to take the train from Manchester to London. There's a railway station in the airport, one change to get to London. Man airport to central London is less than three hours by train, faster than flying (if your final destination is central London).

I need 4 flights on BA metal to retain BAEC Gold/Emerald - hence the BA flight, which goes towards that. The reason for the EY flight is that there was (& still is) no reward flight available to LHR when I need to travel, and there was one seat to MAN. There, I hope that satisfies your curiosity & proves that there is some method to my madness - this is FT after all
