I don't have any relevant experience with Gulf Air, but most airlines will just put you on the next available flight. Since your trip is on one ticket, not two separate flights and tickets, it shouldn't be a problem. The only issue would be a possible long wait once you got to your layover, if the next flight to your destination is the next day or something. And if it is weather related, they usually won't give you a hotel for your stay as it isn't the airline's fault for the irregular operations.
