I have just started here in earnest, but I have noticed tons of people doing mileage runs in December. The reason for doing this is obvious, you are short after all required travel and trying to get the necessary miles in prior to a hard deadline of Dec 31.
But it seems to me this is a very inefficient way to do this. First, fares are more expensive this time of year. Second, most people have other obligations around the holidays, whether they be family or end of year business. Plus one bad storm and your plans are wrecked.
Why not do the runs in January, February or March? The time pressures should be less, the fares should be cheaper, and if you make a status upgrade you have that much more time to enjoy it.
Am I missing something. Do any of you do early year mileage runs?
