Ireland car rental for 68 days

I have just accepted a 68 day +/- house sitting job in Kinvare, Ireland, 1.5 hours south of Galway starting in Feb. Rental cars are pricey in Ireland, and maybe someone has some thoughts as to how to best do this.

My husband will be with me the first two weeks. I thought we would rent a car in his name for 28 days, adding me as driver. He would pay for the car using his Chase United Mileage plus card, which I believe (I'm in Spain right now house sitting, no access to my paperwork) has CDW coverage in Ireland. I would return the car after 28 days.

Question
Would this be a problem, me returning his car without him even though he is listed as driver? I mean he could be late for his plane and I had to drop him off...

I would then rent another car for 28 days using my Chase Saphire MC, which I know covers CDW in Ireland.

Question - does anyone know when the Chase Saphire MC will be retired and merged into Chase Saphire Visa?

Then my best guess is that I take a bus to Kinvare, and make do without a car for 12 days, catching a bus back to Galway to fly home or my next housesit.

As most of you know, you cannot rent a car for longer than 28 days using the CDW coverage on credit card. That is why we are breaking it up.

Any thoughts?
