A very similar thing happened to me last weekend. I mentioned going by CIV to the crew member and she said that they didn't use that as a differentiator, all golds get equal treatment. I wasn't in the mood to create a scene so I left it. In the end I also was offered something from the CW menu.

Too me this was a double disappointment insufficient catering and poor crew training. BA is the only airline where I regularly see people refused first choice of meals in F or J. Totally agree with the comments here around that these changes costing BA in the medium run, when it comes to catering (lounge and inboard) BA management seems to forget that airlines are a service industry.
