Looking at the terms again, there is no absolute guarantee that it is the 4th gen iPad, but this is the language they use:

The 4th Gen iPad was officially called "iPad with Retina Display", even though the current ARV is no longer $499 since it has been discontinued. Hey, maybe it will be an iPad Air, which DOES have a current ARV of $499, but I doubt it.
I had very similar thoughts, after looking up the vague description. Just a fair warning, the 3rd generation was the first in the series to have a Retina display. I don't really care if it's 3rd or 4th, because it's a freebie. I still haven't jumped on the tablet bandwagon, and never thought I would, so this will be a first for me. I'm mostly just concerned about accessories such as getting a good case (I'd like to have one by the time it arrives so I can start keeping it safe) and power cables. I know it'll come with an Apple cable in the box, but if it's a 3rd gen it will still have the 30 pin (which are becoming increasingly hard to find; I had to scour the internet for a while to find a good quality 30 pin for my 4s) and the 4th would have the tiny little one (whatever it's called). Oh well, just have to wait and see. I guess I should amend my earlier post to say "Happy Easter to me" based on the 6-8 week arrival. And indeed, how uncanny that 2/5 winners are FTers. Maybe we can arrange to have play dates for our infant tablets.
