I'm looking at the photos and I don't see the problem. I would certainly prefer that seat to being in the back of the plane. It does have several inches more pitch than a regular economy seat, which is what AA promises. What it does not have is foot/carryon space under the seat in front, but that's not part of the MCE commitment.
On an upcoming AA flight we have knowingly selected seats similar to those being discussed (Row 8 on a 738). As others have noted, no one will recline onto you.
I've been on (non-AA) flights in the bulkhead row with normal (tight) seat pitch...not fun.
