I've been CP on US Airways for the last 6 years and just re-qualified this year, now I'm not sure how to plan travel for 2014. My primary commute at the moment isn't served well by US metal so I've been flying United and crediting the miles to my US account which is the lions share of getting me to CP again.

My dilemma is that for 2014 who should I fly? I can (I think) choose US or American, as I understand it we are still in the star alliance until the end of March so should my United flights count up until then (but not afterwards)?

If I fly American in January can I credit the miles to my US Dividend Miles account?

If I fly American after March can I then credit the miles (if I cannot do so beforehand)?

I'm just a little lost with the whole merger thing and don't want to drop a bunch of miles because I don't understand the best strategy.
