I meant the UPGRADE STANDBY LIST.
First point, is the non-revs are at the bottom of the waitlist for that cabin -- all regular waitlisted passengers must clear first.
Non-revs can waitlist for any cabin and if there are no waitltisted regular customers and empty seats then they can clear.
This has been the practice for many, many years on UA.
