Did you try calling up? The DL phone agents can usually straighten up nonsense like this very quickly.

The simple answer is that when you search for an airfare, the results you see are not live. To save money, the common industry practice is to display cached fares. Most of the times these line up with what the actual fare is - only actually searched for and confirmed when you hit purchase- but sometimes they don't.
There's no grand conspiracy at work here...
