Agent Error leads to Forex Charges: Any Recourse
A couple weeks back I called the Global Services number to book a flight for a family member that lives in Canada. In making the booking I confirmed explicitly with the agent that the ticket would be charged in Canadian dollars since I was using my brother's Canadian credit card. The agent assured me it would be in CDN $s
Upon receiving the ticket confirmation, I noticed that he was in fact charged in USD. I quickly called Global Services back and the next agent said the only way to correct the issue would be to refund the charge and rebook the ticket in USD correctly this time. I agreed.
Today the refund was processed by my brother's credit card and the amount was $85.07 less than the original charge. This was due to bank fees applied on foreign transaction charges. i.e., the bank adjust the rate in their favor no matter which way you are transacting....the difference was not a result of fluctuations in the USD<->CDN exchange rate.
The way I see this, this additional $85 cost was the result of a United CS agents error and there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. Do I likely have any recourse with United on this?
