EVA Air: LAX-TPE-KUL - Mileage upgrade during layover in TPE
My friend is flying BR LAX-TPE-KUL on a B fare ticket earning 100% mileage. He has 13k miles in his BR account and it costs 15k to upgrade TPE-KUL to business class. He is currently 2k miles short of the upgrade but will have enough miles once he gets to TPE. TPE-KUL has wide open availability in business class.
Can he upgrade to business class for TPE-KUL? If yes, does he (1) call BR and request an upgrade since they can check that he is indeed flying LAX-TPE before flying TPE-KUL or (2) request the upgrade after he gets to the airport?
