Hotels in the USA simply build this stuff into the room rate and then give you whatever it is for "free".

Bottom line here is that OP has two options: 1) shell out; or 2) cancel (if he can). I doubt that hotel security shows up at your room and frog walks you into the dinner if you no show for it.
