When I was a kid my dad used to bring home pimento cheese, I couldn't stand the stuff.
Recently I was accosted by a food demonstrator at a local specialty market who was peddling pimento cheese. I told her that I never liked it and wasn't interested. I wasn't ugly about it, more playful. She assured me that the stuff you buy off the shelf at the mass grocers is an inferior product and I really should try her cheese.
WOW! Was it good! Yesterday I swung by a local deli that is reported to have the best pimento cheese in town. My wife has never had it and rolled her eyes when I parked the car and ran inside to buy some with pita chips. When we got home we were just amazed at how good it was.
This afternoon I introduced my teenage daughter to this Southern delicacy and she was hooked. When the wife came in the door she asked if we still had some. I suspect that pimento cheese will be a staple in our house.
