I've just checked the Massport website, it gives a list of acceptable reasons, one is accompanying a minor. But it again says I have to arrange it with my airline. Which makes sense, as only the airline can see that I've made a valid booking for my daughter.

So it seems to be a case that BA can, but doesn't.
