Is your child simply travelling alone or are you planning to use the Skyflyer Solo service (where BA look after the child)?

I don't know the answer to your gate pass question, but my guess would be that if there isn't a clear answer on BA.com or via Customer Service, BA will probably not be able to arrange this for you. So I would simply plan to drop your kid off at Check-In/wave them farewell at security.
