Gate Pass to accompany minor on first solo trip

Hello,

To bump or not to bump, that is the question. I chose not to bump some old threads which ended up closed for off topic irrelevance or were 3+ years old. I hope it's the right choice...

I'm sending my 12yo on her first flight alone just after Christmas. I've had several conversations with BA about it. It seems BA CS does not know there is such a thing as a gate pass. I've spoken to five different agents in three calls today, and no one can give me straight information, one even had me make a call to France, because she confused Open Skies with Skyflyers and that's where OS is headquartered. The rest told me to phone the airport again, as BA don't do gate passes.

I've phoned the airport in question (BOS) twice, both an agent and a supervisor have assured me the pass can only be requested through the airline, but that it is absolutely possible. I've read on flyertalk the advice that one should request a gate pass at least 24 hours in advance. The most recent fellow at BA actually said that because there are no references to gate passes on the website, BA must have a policy against it.

If other airlines can arrange gate passes, why wouldn't BA (and FTers say they have in the past) and if they can, who exactly do I need I speak to? And does anyone know the exact procedure, in case I ever get someone unafraid to authorise it?

Thanks in advance, and apologies if I should have posted in an old thread. If so, mods please do what you have to do
