As it turns out, the deal-breaker was flight scheduling. It looks like it's going to be AA/OneWorld for me.
An update to my post above: apparently both CX MPC Gold and access to the AA Admiral's Club is going away for Amex Platinum in 2014. So, my advice to get that particular Amex card is not as solid. It would still get you access to the Amex lounge at DFW and the Plaza Premium lounges at YYZ, though.
