A bit towards apples and oranges here. Must keep in mind you are a guest in a hotel and not an owner/renter and as such some rights are not available. And local police have been known to do welfare checks when reasonably requested.

I have gone many days not needing/wanting the room serviced. There are some properties better about honoring that request than others. There are some guests that will take advantage of a more lax policy than others. Finding the right middle ground can be a challenge.
