After getting fitted for a suit, visiting the palace/temples and going shopping in Siam square, I figured I'd spend the day outside of the madness of Bangkok.
I like Ayutthaya. If you like old culture and temples, a great place to visit. Rent a bike and pedal around to the various temples. Depending upon what day of the week you are there, it can be pretty serene.

As for getting there, you can take one of the minibus' near Victory monument, but you need to know where you are going. Takes about 1.5 hours if you do it that way. Better (if you have the money) is to book something through the hotel or a travel agent. Train is doable but slooooow. Made the mistake of taking one up to Ayutthaya one time. It felt like I probably could have walked faster!!!
