There were actually a bunch of lumber merchants there, thus the name. The first time I visited there was a still one lumber supplier there. If you find anything historical, I'd be really curious to see it. There were definitely some feudal lords living in the area. I know the Nambu clan had their estate a bit further down Tere-asa Dori (but I'm sure the road had a different name then.)
