Since the schedule change was over 30 minutes, they will make the change for free, per http://www.aa.com/i18n/agency/Bookin...e_240_80.jsp#1

And even without that rule, since you booked an 8 pm flight and they still have an 8 pm flight there should be no problem moving you to it. It is effectively just a flight number change from your original booking.

After you have flown enough you will find that airlines can indeed do just that, and they do it fairly regularly. If you book a trip more than 2-3 months ahead it would be unusual to not have any intervening schedule change. Thankfully, AA is better about this than DL.
