Ive been staying here 8-10 times over the last year- sherator into Le Mer.
It is the worst Le Meridien Ive stayed at. I mentioned some issues to the front desk, and got an email from the manager asking for feedback. Nothing to do on my flight so I gave him my honest feedback with 11 disticnt points. I got a "let me know if you come back and I'll do something" response.
To me it seems all they did was add French translations to the existing signage (to make it seem 'Meridien-ey' I guess) and towels with 'Le Meridien' tags. Perhaps the poor service is an attempt to make it more authentic?? Hmmm.
Out of 12 visits, only one upgrade. Even arriving on a sunday afternoon for a one night stay. very low season.
Service slow, white lies told, chintzy with towels and toiletries in the rooms. Shabby feeling in places. Dining is VERY odd- wierd open, uninviting lobby bar and a 'temporary feeling' room upstairs.
And only $300 a night!
Free parking is the only benefit.
Oh, they also pay private town cars kick backs to steer customers to their cars for rides to LAX. If you ask for a taxi and you are headed to LAX, they will put you into a towncar for $40. Taxi will be $26 without any traffic, FYI. Local rides they'll call a taxi, but long rides they'll put you in a private car. (The kickbacks are called 'cookies'...many taxis wont pay them, simply because they need to charge what is on the meter- whereas the towncar can charge whatever.)
