That would definitely warrant a complaint from me to Hilton when I got home. There is no defense for the attitude I've (only rarely) gotten from Hilton staff.

Agreed. That's why that little bar is so useful. It really doesn't enhance your safety that much , because a determined attacker could kick it in. However, it can't be overridden by the staff (obviously!), and it is "visible" so you can just look at the door and know you are all set. I've had cleaning staff arrive too early in the morning, miss the DND, and I can hear the door bumping up against that bar. Works like a charm.
