It's not just the bridge gates. I came into Gatwick on Friday lunchtime, we were given gate 74, which is part of the main building, but it is still 400 metres from the UK Border. I only had handbaggage and I was able to get from the Gatwick gate to my T5 lounge airside in 1 hour and 5 minutes via National Express and a curiously empty M25. But a friend also on the same service had to wait a further 20 minutes for his bags to arrive, despite the long walk and a bit of a wait at passports.
