Not defending Cathay Boy or taking any sides, but where does he mention banning Asiana from US airspace?
I think the general takeaway from this incident is that this pilot was definitely not ready to fly this route/plane yet and it should have been brought to attention, which it sounds like it sort of did but no one took any action on it. Mix his lack of confidence in both visual landings and flying the new plane, the lack of the glide slope, and the negative feedbacks his past instructors noted about his flying, and something bad was likely to happen.
While this is a single incident, it does shed some light on the improper training of pilots, and hopefully more airlines will learn from this and adjust how they train their pilots. It also shows that certain cultural differences can clash with proper handling of flying operations and is something that all airlines should address.
