Not at all. They only post the track numbers at NY Penn about 15 minutes before departure.

Go to the waiting area and watch the giant departures board for the track to be posted. Walk to the assigned gate and someone will check the ticket you have printed as you pass through.

There's no check in for going to DC and you can board up until a couple of minutes before departure.
