That said, I recall the hawker stands are pretty darn good, so my guess is we'll be quite happy eating at a couple of these. I see a lot of references to Lau Pa Sat; is that better than other hawker stands, or just a popular one? We're staying at the Conrad (on points, of course), so I'd be particularly interested in any hawker recommendations within walking distance of that hotel.

Thanks!
Marina Square as aster has mentioned is quite good. Food Republic at Suntec City as well. And since you are at the Conrad, I will recommend taking a MRT on the Circle Line from Promenade MRT (entrance is next to Conrad) to Dakota MRT and visit Old Airport Road Hawker Centre. It's a v popular hawker centre in Singapore, and very highly recommended on this boards.

As for prices, prices in the Marina area are obviously more expensive than out of the city centre. Prices would start from $4 onwards, for seafood/non-local dishes (like Korean, Japanese etc), be prepared to pay $6 and above. If you are ordering seafood dishes (like sambal stingray, prawns, squid, etc), be prepared to pay $10 and beyond.
