While it is not called out specifically in the article, NRT-BKK is part of the JV. IMO, this is very clearly a coordinated move to reduce capacity in order to increase yield.
The JV coordinates activities across the Pacific - from the US to Japan, and onwards to limited destinations IN Japan - it does not govern how NH operates from Japan to other destinations within Asia (per the documents released to the public).
While I am sure there is some communication going on between the carriers so they are aware of schedule and aircraft changes, NRT-BKK, NRT-TPE and NRT-XXX within Asia are not being coordinated between NH and UA as part of this deal to the level previously suggested.
