In a few weeks, I'll have my family with me on a 2-day stopover in SIN. It's been several years since my last visit. Before SIN, we'll be in Malaysia and Indonesia, so I expect to be "shocked" by prices in SIN.

That said, I recall the hawker stands are pretty darn good, so my guess is we'll be quite happy eating at a couple of these. I see a lot of references to Lau Pa Sat; is that better than other hawker stands, or just a popular one? We're staying at the Conrad (on points, of course), so I'd be particularly interested in any hawker recommendations within walking distance of that hotel.

My favorite place, the Makan Sutra hawker center, is right next door to the Conrad, at Esplanade. You can eat outside with great views of the downtown skyline. In my opinion, the best stall is the bbq seafood one, make sure to get some sambal stingray, and they also serve a great oyster omlette (oh lauh jian)
